The Official Explanation

It started with one bite.

The problem started when my wife took a bite. Her eyes lit up, she looked at me, and said, “You can’t make these anymore. They’re too dangerous.” I knew what she meant. She couldn’t resist them. I can’t blame her — who could resist the textures and flavors coming out of my oven?

But I have a problem. I can’t stop baking. I’ve tried. Cookies, and brownies, and other delicious desserts not to be spoken aloud keep coming out of my oven. You might assume our eleven children are the problem here. They are not. They’re amateurs compared to their mother.

So, do a guy a solid. Buy a cookie — or a dozen — and get them out of my kitchen. My wife will appreciate your sacrifice too.

— Chuck

How it works

Evidence removal, in three steps

1

Place your order

Give us at least 48 hours — good cookie dough rests overnight, and we bake everything to order. Nothing sits on a shelf. Nothing survives long enough to.

2

We bake. Quietly.

Your order is baked fresh, boxed, and labeled — each package stamped and inspected by absolutely no regulatory authority, as Texas cottage food law intends.

3

Pickup or delivery

Porch pickup at your appointed time, or local delivery around Huntsville on delivery evenings — $5, free on orders over $40.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead do I need to order?

48 hours. Our cookie dough chills overnight before baking — it’s what makes the texture worth banning. Need something faster for an office or event? Email us and we’ll see what the oven can do.

How does pickup work?

Choose a pickup time at checkout. Your order will be waiting for you, boxed and labeled, at our porch in Huntsville — the address comes in your confirmation email. Discreet, as befits contraband.

Do you deliver?

Yes — local delivery around Huntsville on our delivery evenings for $5, free on orders over $40. Your confirmation email tells you which evening your order arrives.

What about allergens?

Everything we bake contains wheat, milk, egg, and soy, and is made in a kitchen that also handles nuts. Every label lists allergens for that item.

Can you handle party trays or bulk orders?

Happily — whole pans of The Last Straw, cookie trays, office boxes. Email [email protected] with the date and headcount and we’ll quote it.

Why isn’t your dozen a baker’s dozen?

A baker’s dozen is thirteen. We have eleven children. Twelve is the largest number of baked goods ever observed intact in this house, and we consider it a triumph of parenting.

Is this a real bakery?

A real Texas cottage food operation, which means home-baked in the most literal sense: THIS PRODUCT WAS PRODUCED IN A PRIVATE RESIDENCE THAT IS NOT SUBJECT TO GOVERNMENTAL LICENSING OR INSPECTION. The ban, however, remains in force.

The oven is already on.*
